We Have a Dream: Plants for Dreams + Visioning (Virtual)

Saturday, January 14, 2023

Virtual

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 16th is a powerful time to contemplate King's far-reaching legacy. From his lifetime of insurgent activism to his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, his spirit runs throughout the American national consciousness. In addition to honoring and remembering King, this is also a powerful time to connect with our own dreams and visions as individuals and as a community. And what's more, plants can be powerful allies to assist us in doing this.

Join me for this virtual “plant tour” and community discussion exploring various plants used within and beyond the African American tradition to support dreaming, visioning, and expansive thought. This introductory presentation will provide a foundation for further exploration of core plants that grow within and beyond our bioregion throughout the year, as well as some of the historical context that explains the marginalization of this knowledge. People of all faiths and political backgrounds interested in exploring our shared ethnobotanical history and contemporary experiences with openness are welcome to attend!
